The annual English Festival returns to Wayne State College Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This event is free and open to the public.

Last year’s English Festival was cancelled due to COVID, so the WSC Writing Club is excited to sponsor the 2021 event, aptly themed “New Beginnings.” Prior to the event, writers submitted works prompted by the theme. Winners will be announced, and prizes given to the top three submissions.

The festival also includes a workshop entitled “A Time Like This,” focusing on creative writing in times of adversity. Stephanie Hempel, a WSC Alum and Naropa University M.F.A. graduate in creative writing, hosts the workshop. Hempel is the cofounder and editor-in-chief of the literary magazine, Tiny Spoon; works with the literary journal, The Bombay Gin; and teaches at the Wisdom Body Artist Collective.
